Healthier than a Working Mom Housewife

Despite struggling with work and duty as a mother, working mothers were healthier than housewives, especially when their children are still toddlers.

The mothers work, either part time or full time, who participated in this study are generally much less depression and better general health compared with mothers who remained at home taking care of their toddlers.

A mother who dedicate their time to take care of family at hometend to have a limited social circle. They also tend to be easy to feel bored because its activity is more monotonous, so they feel more depressed than those whose mothers worked.

In addition, a housewife who has a child is still small because toomuch stress throughout the day have to face her children. However, stress is typically reduced when the children weregrowing up and into school age.

The research was conducted based on interviews that began in1991 to 1364 the mother of several cities in the United States. The researchers interviewed the mothers started from when their child was an infant and toddler, pre-school entry age, and whenthe child was sitting in elementary school.

The researchers defined a part-time working mothers are thosewho work 32 hours per week. About 25 percent of respondentsworked part-time during the study period although there are somewho stop working then work again.

The questions raised include symptoms of depression that is feltthere, the presence or absence of conflict between work and family life, and how large their involvement in school children.

The mothers who worked part time reported at least feel thedilemma between family and work compared with women whoworked full. Also part-time working mothers are also involved inschool life of children, as well as housewives.
